Duluth Baduk Club

A friendly club for an ancient game
Go (also known as baduk, or weiqi) is one of the oldest board games still played today. The game is simple to learn, but deep enough to spend a lifetime on. It's also just a good excuse to sit across a table from someone for an evening.
"Go" is the Japanese name. In Korea it's baduk (바둑); in China, where the game began some four thousand years ago, it's weiqi (围棋). Same stones, same board, same quiet concentration.
The Duluth Baduk Club is a small casual club. Everyone is welcome, from "I've never placed a stone" to dan-level players. If you're new, someone will teach you and play you on a handicap. Come every time or once a season; both are completely normal.

When we meet
First and third Wednesday of every month, 6:30 PM until the cafe closes at 9. Just walk in — there's no sign-up.
What a night looks like
- Show up, grab a board, get paired with someone near your strength.
- Usually two or three games over the evening, with time to watch and talk between.
- New players start with a short teaching game on a small board.
- The cafe has food, coffee, and a wall of other games if you need a break.

You can learn enough to play a real game in about ten minutes. You don't have to study anything first — but if you like to read ahead, these are good:

Legend credits the game to the emperor Yao, four thousand years ago, as a lesson for his restless son. It reached Duluth more recently. The club loves when new people show up! Come to a meetup, bring someone who's never played, and say hello.
